Whilst we are crossing this small fishing boat is tacking up river against current and strong wind - use a long pole to push them round and then tack across river and repeat.

Sun 11 Oct:
Met up with convoy of 37 4x4s. Set off along beach east of Jeri. Passed dead turtle being pecked at by 5-6 vultures. Lots of wild (?) donkeys. Al;so quite a few horses, cows, goats. Large sand dunes. Simpl;e fishing boats on the coast. At Guriu, simple ferries to take us across the river. Large mangrove groves (mangue seca). Reassembled convoy and headed further along beach to village of Vila de Tatajuba. Well organised convoy with numbers on vehicles, walkie talkies, gps, etc. At Tatajuba headed in land bashing over large dunes to Lagoa (Lake) da Torta. On way, stopped to get one car out of the sand - advantage of being part of convoy. Views along coast and inland to mangroves, lakes amongst the dunes.
Lunch at Lagoa da Torta - simple restaurant - thatched palm roof - tables also in water edge. Grilled fish, rice, farofa.
Return route through dunes again then back along coast.
Evening back in Jeri to watch sun set from duna do por do sol with a caipirinha.
